How energy saving LED bulbs can help you light up responsibly
The world is trying to find sustainable sources of energy to be able to save the limited and non-renewable reserves of fossil fuels. Without sustainable technologies, the future is bleak. As we know, our fossil fuel reserves are fast depleting and in the meantime, scientists and researchers are looking for alternative sources of energy. There is a lot of emphasis on developing energy-efficient appliances and fixtures that can help in substantially reducing power consumption.
The light-emitting diode (LED) is a breakthrough technology that consumes significantly less energy than regular light inducing technologies. Although an LED light is substantially more efficient, hardwearing and resistant, the truly distinguishing feature of an LED light is the significantly better light quality as compared to the other forms of lighting. It is among the most energy-efficient technologies that we have.
An energy-efficient way to light up:
LED has the potential for greater control and reduce the consumption of conventional sources of energy. It has massive potential to reduce the carbon footprint. LED bulbs that are commonly used for residential lighting use 75 percent less energy than regular bulbs. This is even more true for ENERGY STAR products. They are also an efficient source of lighting because they last up to 25 times longer than regular bulbs.
Countries and governments are now supporting the widespread use of LED lights. Some estimates say that in the next decade alone, the world could save more than 500 TWh of energy, with the help of LED lights, as compared to the other conventional lighting systems. In terms of the monetary value, this means that billions of dollars could be saved merely by switching to the use of LED lights.
LEDs: How they are different from other forms of lighting:
LED lighting is a thoroughly different technology as compared to the regular bulbs or even the compact fluorescent lights. They are also in sharp contrast to the technology used in incandescent bulbs.
The actual diode or the LED inside the glass bulb is the size of a pearl. The technology combines different colours of lights; blue, red and green which together create a bright white light.
LEDs effuse light in a particular direction diminishing the requirement of reverberators and diffusers to confine and refract light. This characteristic makes LEDs drastically more suitable for uses such as recessed lighting which is a popular interior trend today. The other modes of lighting often cause the light to be transmitted to the coveted direction. Due to this, often a lot of the light never leaves the fixture inside which the bulb is installed.
Suitability for recessed Downlights and holiday-fairy lights:
LED lights are also suitable for downlights that are usually installed in kitchen cabinets, hallways, restrooms and exteriors. They are also perfectly suited for being used in fairy lights that are used for festive lighting. They are safer than regular lights. They are also more sturdy and resistant than the regular festive lights. The biggest advantage of using LED lights for festive lighting is that they are extremely long-lasting and they can be used for many holiday seasons.
Substantially less thermal radiation:
Also, in terms of thermal radiation, LEDs are much more efficient. They emit much less heat. In contrast to other technologies such as incandescent bulbs and CFL bulbs, an LED light produces substantially less heat. Therefore, several benefits make LED lights a preferred choice of fixture of the regular incandescent bulbs and CFL bulbs. Led Lights can thus not only help you in reducing the expenditure on electricity but also control the heat. It has also been found that air conditioners cool more efficiently with LED bulbs.
The importance of using sustainable energy cannot be undermined in today’s times when combustion caused by fossil fuels is causing so many environmental and ecological problems. Even a small change at the household level can bring about a greater change towards a better tomorrow. We as a community must assume our collective responsibility to consume less and consume more efficiently. In the interest of maintaining the ecological balance and preserving our environment for our future generations, we must find alternative technologies that can help us in creating a better world
